Overview

Commercial displays are screens built for business, education and public use, such as digital signage, video walls, classroom panels and interactive screens. Frost & Sullivan groups the Indian market into three product types: indoor and outdoor displays (including digital signage and video walls), interactive flat panel displays (IFPDs) and AI-enabled mirrors.

The market has grown steadily on the back of education, enterprise, retail, hospitality and public infrastructure demand. India still imports most of its high-value products, and local manufacturing is mainly assembly. This article covers market size, product mix, regional and price-band split, trade, and a separate look at AI mirrors using outside industry reports.

Market size and forecast

The market grew from about INR 17.2 billion in FY2021 to INR 41.1 billion in FY2026P, a CAGR of about 19.0%. It is projected to reach about INR 77.1 billion by FY2030F, a CAGR of about 17.0% over FY2026P-FY2030F. Growth is expected from investment in smart infrastructure, more interactive displays, wider use of digital signage and newer uses such as smart retail.

Volumes rose from 0.68 million units to 1.66 million units over the same period. They are projected to reach 3.18 million units by FY2030F, supported by digital signage, interactive displays in schools and offices, and replacement demand.

Indoor and outdoor displays lead, driven by organised retail, quick service restaurants, transport hubs and public spaces, and by the growth of digital out-of-home advertising. IFPDs are mainly used in education, where they replace projectors and whiteboards, and in offices for collaboration. They sell at higher prices because of touch and software features.

Urban areas dominate because organised retail, offices, hospitality and better digital infrastructure are concentrated there. Rural demand comes mostly from government digital classroom programmes. Premium products lead because of IFPDs and large-format screens; mid-range products are mainly digital signage for retail, hospitality and offices.

Penetration compared with other countries

Penetration in India is estimated at 15-20% across education institutions, organised retail and corporate offices. The comparable estimates are 60-70% for the United States and 50-60% for China. Frost & Sullivan attributes India's lower level to fragmented retail, weaker digital infrastructure in Tier II and Tier III cities and tight public budgets. The gap leaves room for growth as retail becomes more organised and digital education and smart infrastructure spending rises.

Trade and local production

Domestic consumption was about INR 35 billion in FY2025. Local production is at a developing stage. Manufacturing is mostly assembly and integration, while panels and electronic modules are imported, especially for IFPDs and large-format displays. Exports are a small share of the market but spread over many countries.

The U.K., Oman and South Africa grew strongly between FY2024 and FY2025, partly from a low base. Steady growth was seen in the U.S., Belgium and Germany. Import and production values were not given in the source, so they are not shown here.

AI mirrors: a closer look

What they are

An AI mirror is a smart mirror: a two-way mirror fitted with a display, camera, sensors and connectivity, with software that responds to the person using it (IMARC Group). In retail it is used for virtual try-on and product suggestions; in hospitality and smart buildings for guest information and personalised service. Frost & Sullivan puts AI-enabled mirrors at about 6% of India's commercial display market in FY2025, mainly in premium retail, hospitality and smart buildings.

Global estimates differ widely

Published global estimates for smart mirrors vary several times over, mostly because publishers define the product differently. Many include car mirrors, such as digital rear-view mirrors, and home mirrors, which fall outside commercial displays.

What drives demand

IMARC links growth mainly to the automotive industry, smart homes, and use of AI and IoT, and notes rising interest in health and wellness. Coherent Market Insights divides applications into automotive, consumer and residential, healthcare, and retail and advertising. Another publisher, The Business Research Company, lists personalised shopping, virtual try-on and augmented reality beauty guidance among the factors for growth. For India's commercial displays, the retail and hospitality uses are the most relevant.

India-specific data

We found no India-level market size for AI mirrors from a public institutional source. Paid reports from some publishers cover India, but their figures are not public, so none is given here. The only India figure used is Frost & Sullivan's 6% share. The small base suggests early-stage adoption, but this is an observation, not a forecast.

Conclusion

India's commercial display market is growing at a high-teens rate, led by digital signage and interactive panels, and is expected to nearly double by FY2030F. Imports remain important, local value addition is limited and urban areas account for most demand. AI mirrors are a small part of the market today, and reliable India-specific data for them is still scarce.
